At VUMEDIA Group we offer personalized one-on-one photography instruction for beginners and intermediate photography students. Depending on your current knowledge of photography and the type of photography that interests you, we can start with the exposure triangle, progress to camera equipment including lenses, flashes, and tripods, then progress to the specific type of photography that interests you.
Photography Lessons Offered
Please note; for all of the sessions listed below, you will need to know how to find your camera’s settings ahead of time. We recommend that you read your owner’s manual, and become very familiar with your specific camera model prior to the session. We only use Canon cameras for our professional photography work; every camera manufacturer calls their settings by a specific name and every camera manufacturer stores their settings in different places. To ensure that you get the most out of your session, we cannot help you find a specific camera setting for your model of camera if it is not a Canon. If you want us to spend your entire session figuring out your camera settings we can; but it would not be the best use of your session time or money.
Photography Fundamentals
This is a 3hr personalized one-on-one instructional session where we teach you the basics of photography including the exposure triangle, depth of field, field of view, lenses, basis of lighting, exposure, white balance, color science, basics of camera care and more.
This is a camera brand agnostic instructional session which is beneficial even if you have not yet purchased your first camera. In fact, this session could save you thousands of dollars by helping you avoid expensive mistakes in gear purchases if you are planning on going pro.
Real Estate Photography
This is a 3hr personalized one-on-one instructional session where we teach you the basics of real estate photography including the different methods used throughout the industry, how to compose, light, and film each type of room in a typical property, and some of the common mistakes and challenges a real estate photographer will encounter.
For this session we will need a property to work with, it can be your own home, a friends home, or an empty property that you have access to. We do not provide the property for this session.
Portrait Photography
This is a 2hr personalized one-on-one instructional session where we teach you the basics of portrait photography including lighting, posing, on camera flash, off camera flash and more. You must have a good foundation in photography, pro or semi pro camera gear, and at least a good manual flash (not popup flash) in order to get the most out of this session.
For portrait sessions, we can hire a model to be our portrait subject if needed, or we recommend that you bring a friend to pose for the session.
Nature Photography
This is a 2hr personalized one-on-one instructional session where we meet in a nature setting such as a park or other nature friendly place and help you solve real world camera problems to make your images sharper, better exposed, better composed, and to ensure you get the most out of your camera.
You must already have a mirrorless or DSLR camera for this session and you should be pretty familiar with your cameras settings including how to shoot in Manual mode prior to this session.
Walk and Shoot
This is a personalized one-on-one instructional session where we meet in an outdoor setting such as a park, downtown, or any other outdoors venue and help you solve real world camera problems to make your images sharper, better exposed, better composed, and to ensure you get the most out of your camera.
You must already have a mirrorless or DSLR camera for this session and you should be pretty familiar with your cameras settings including how to shoot in Manual mode prior to this session. This session is billed at a flat hourly rate and can be as short as an hour or a full day.
Model Photography
This is a personalized 2hr one-on-one instructional session where we teach you the basics of model portrait photography including lighting, posing, off camera flash and more. You must have a good foundation in photography, pro or semi pro camera gear, and at least one good off camera flash as well as an off camera flash modifier in order to get the most out of this session.
For modeling portrait sessions, we will hire a semi-pro or professional local model to be our modeling portrait subject.
Exposure
We help you understand the 3 elements of photography exposure (ISO, Aperture, and Shutter Speed)
Focusing
We explain the different types of focus, how to achieve the sharpest image, how to film moving subjects, and the effects of shutter speed
Lighting
We start with natural lighting then progress to artificial lighting. We also discuss light modifiers, diffusion, on camera and off camera flash, and more
Camera Equipment
We explain the difference in sensor sizes, lenses, light stands, tripods, camera bags, ND filters, remote triggers, camera brands, and more
